Normal Programming Will Resume Momentarily

Dec 9, 2013

In other words… I’m sick.  In the meantime please enjoy this “classic” tune which I’m sure all of the MLCers can related to.

Maybe this will help if I set the scenery:

Otherwise, it’s OT – Off Topic or Open Topic time.  Have fun.  Keep it clean.  See you soon…

Ya I also remember going to the Liberty, Emperess and Golden Harvest theaters, just love kung fu movies. It was early 70s what more needs to be said? Its a shame all the unique local movie houses are gone. :-( I did hear talk that they may restore the queen but not sure when?

eh, @hawaiian by heart – I get the answer. I hereby christen you hbh! ;)

@hbh – I miss the Waikiki 3 (that was the “not the twins one”, yeah?) and Toyo theatres the most. Dunno about Queen restoration. The shell is still there. Maybe the east-siders like sally, mark’75, or khs68 would know.

BTW – @khs68 – where you stay? LOL.

“Normal programming will resume momentarily” reminded me of how TV stations used to actually sign on and off. They don’t seem to do that anymore.

I remember, as a kid, staring at the test pattern like:

impatiently waiting for cartoons to start! LOL. And, had that annoying “hum” playing in the background.

Here is one that is on the edge of my memory, but keeps evading it. In the 70s it was a latenight t.v disco dance show that was filmed in Honolulu/!Waikiki in one of the big hotels? The “im am the local” question is, what was the name of the show and whats the hotel/club it was filmed in?

I remember the dancefloor and what the club looked like but not the name. They also had a few pachinko machines which I played during the day.

In case not everyone remembers pachinko. This should help.

Also alot of the old theaters have alot of local history behind them. Just to be able to read the history and see pictures is why im ordering the book. Further, I believe Sally will be very happy wit dat picture. It sounds like she been trying to find one for awhile now.

@Mark’75 no biggy bruddah, it brings aloha to my heart to share old local culture and history. Mark personally I believe our generation was the last generation to be blessed with the last real local culture, stuff like the neighborhood theaters, the driveins(food and movies) unique lifestyles like keiki being able to play outside and not worry etc. The last of the good ‘o days.

Looking at those theaters brought back so many memories. Mickey Mouse club on Saturdays, tagging along to drive-in movies with my older cousins, going with friends to watch Elvis movies in the 60′s, then the teenage years — first date at the movies, holding hands, first kiss…

Lol you are older then me. Im the very hanabata kikaida, kamen rider, yick lung, Holiday Mart and Pearlridge shopping center phase 1&2 generation. Most of the old neighborhood theaters closed while i was just old enough to experience them and remember. Was 10 when Kapahulu theater closed. But i can still relate to the unique feelings and experiences we had for these local culture places.

Happy Holidays, everyone! Have been on facebook more than on this site. I’m helping to promote my Aiea High School classmate and my favorite American author, Dr. Frank Pickard with his novels. Visit his website at and “LIKE” his site, the more “LIKES” he receives the better his chances to have his novels published in hardback paperback books. Right now they are only available in e-books. His newest novel: ISLAND JEWEL will be released soon! I’ve read all 3 of his novels, THE WEIGHT OF GRAVITY, AMERICAN NOMAD, PHOTOPLASM: A HAUNTING and even his textbook (in softback cover) THEATRE ARTS FUNDAMENTAL THEORY AND PRACTICE. Frank teaches theatre arts at PIMA Community College in Arizona. His writings have kept me very busy as his editor and FREE publicist! :)

@4G: I missed several postings…. yes, we’re still remodeling. Waiting on new wallpaper flown from the mainland, new window blinds, and new lighting fixtures for both of our bathrooms. One thing led to another….. after we put in brand new plumbing, fixtures, tub shower, the floors looked old, so I put in new flooring, then the wallpaper looked old. Ordered new wallpaper, then the wallpaper guy says, you’re not going to have me re-install rusty lighting fixtures so we bought new lighting fixtures…. so everything in both bathrooms except the counter top and cabinets are brand new! Our room will be the only updated room. We’ll rest for awhile after all of this is done! We had a new more efficient solar water heater installed last week! Yay, saving more electricity and tax credits for 2013!

    December 11th, 2013 at 2:37 pm #

Hawaiian Electric Company has not yet approved our 30 PV panels. HECO is driving me crazy since we put in our application for our PV system, they have been returning our checks to our bank with a note “no such account number on file”….. I verified our account number with HECO by phone and from our written bill, sent a 2nd payment to them, our bill is still unpaid…. that was 7 days ago! How long does it take them to post a payment….. coincidence? Or are they screwing with us since we want a PV system installed?! By tomorrow if the payment doesn’t post we’ll go in person to Hawaiian Electric and I’ll hand a check to them personally and ask for a receipt!

Then today, hubby, cuts his weed wacker power cord with his weed wacker and shorts out several outlets in our home….. the outlet I use to blow dry my hair everyday!!! GRRRRR….. Now to call the electrician to fix all the blown outlets…… will the repairs never end??? Oh yeah, and who feels Christmassy?????

    December 11th, 2013 at 2:40 pm #

Went to breakfast with Ankles at Zippy’s, ate crispy bacon and broke my cap on my front tooth, had to talk covering my mouth, no fun! A temporary cap was made, then I broke that too, eating frozen cheesecake! I may never eat crispy bacon or frozen cheesecake again in my lifetime….. All fixed now, have my brand new crown/cap. With instructions, my front teeth are to be used for SMILING ONLY….. no eating with it, no corn on the cob, no carrot sticks, no hard food, nada, nothing….. so that’s what I’ve been up too….. enough drama for 2013….. happy it’s ending soon!

    December 11th, 2013 at 2:55 pm #

@LK – Oh, my! I was going to ask about whether or not you had already been approved for PV by HECO given you live out on the west side (high demand/volume for PV) and with all the controversy surrounding that process as of late. I hope that you can get your approval soon. Must be kind of cool to see your electricity meter run in reverse! ;)

Sorry to hear about your tooth misadventure. This is a bad joke, but brings to mind, “All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth”! LOL – sorry for the bad joke . . . .

MIssed your posts on here. I hope you and your family have a happy holiday season!

    December 11th, 2013 at 5:07 pm #

@4G: Believe me I was singing that song about my front teeth until it was fixed! So happy to have my smile back! I’m cutting my food into tiny pieces and using my molars to chew my food! If you have strong teeth…. makes life so much easier :!:

We’re not holding our breathe for the PV system for 2013 :!:

Can’t even get HECO to take our check from the bank for our electric bill, don’t know what’s going on with their business office, been using bill payer for decades without an issue in the past :!:
