Music Time – Flossie

Jul 29, 2013

In honor of Tropical Storm/Tropical Depression Flossie, I thought I’d do a song post.  Especially because if the power goes out, no one in Hawaii will be posting anyway.  But KAN (and her Sweetie) will hold us up.  😉

So, I’m looking for hurricane/storm/rain/winds/hail/twister/tornado/waterspout, etc. music.

Here’s a few of my favorites:

Like a Hurricane – Neil Young  *One of my favorite air-guitar songs

Riders On The Storm – The Doors

Riding The Storm Out – REO Speedwagon

Okay, your turn.

Coming up sooner than you think.

Endless Summer 03

    Sweetie sez:

    “Another Auld Lang Syne”

“And as I turned to make my way back home,
    The snow turned into rain.”

@ct – that’s awesome. I’d not heard the song before, but Sweetie, who’s a huge Chicago fan, recognized it. Peter Cetera, whom I always thought was sexy, just looks skanky in that video! Yech!

“Land Down Under,” Men at Work

“Do you come from a land down under
Where women glow and men plunder
Can’t you hear, can’t you hear the thunder
You better run, you better take cover.”

Sweetie’s entry above made me think of:

    “Cloudburst,” Barry Manilow

I first him do this on his “Live” Album as part of a big band medley.

“Blues in the Night,” done here by Ms. Ella Fitzgerald

“Now the rain’s a-fallin’, hear the train a-callin, ‘Whooee!’
Hear that lonesome whistle blowin’ ‘cross the trestle, ‘Whooee!’
A-whooee-dah-whooee o’ clickety-clack’s a-echoin’ back the blues in the night
The evenin’ breeze will start the trees to cryin’ and the moon will hide its light when you get the blues in the night
And take my word, that mockingbird’ll sing the saddest kind of song, he knows things are wrong, and he’s so right”

“Kaulana O Hilo Hanakahi,” done here by the Kalima Brothers. That rise and fall in the hui is fun.

    “Kaulana o Hilo Hanakahi
    I ka lehua nani o Pana`ewa
E kau mai e ka la
    Me ke kilihune ua”

    Translation: “Celebrated is Hanakahi’s Hilo
For the lovely lehua of Pana’ewa
    Resting in the sunlight
    And the gentle rain”

Of course, I thought of one more, listing it only b/c I know Rodney likes the group (but I can’t find audio/video):

    “Picnic in the Rain,” Climax.

Sweetie jumping in on KAN’s account for two more that I thought of after we shut down last night:

    1) Bruce Springsteen: “Thunder Road”

    …and 2) Bruce Springsteen: “Thundercrack”

(This is an older song of his, but a staple of many of his live shows over the years.)

FWIW, the flip side of Climax’s “Picnic in the Rain” was “Walking in the Georgia Rain” —
