Music Time – Flossie

Jul 29, 2013

In honor of Tropical Storm/Tropical Depression Flossie, I thought I’d do a song post.  Especially because if the power goes out, no one in Hawaii will be posting anyway.  But KAN (and her Sweetie) will hold us up.

So, I’m looking for hurricane/storm/rain/winds/hail/twister/tornado/waterspout, etc. music.

Here’s a few of my favorites:

Like a Hurricane – Neil Young  *One of my favorite air-guitar songs

Riders On The Storm – The Doors

Riding The Storm Out – REO Speedwagon

Okay, your turn.

***********************************************************************************

Coming up sooner than you think.

Endless Summer 03

My memories of the rain is at the U.H. football games. Back in the 80s’. Halloween night. Homecoming. Game’s a sellout. Tim Lyons and Bernard Quarles splitting the QB duties. It’s been raining since tailgate time in the afternoon. Half-time show was a blast. U.H. is driving for the touchdown. Band’s pumping it like there’s no tomorrow. Man, it can’t get any better than that. Just hearing this song makes me go wild. And so does everything else! LOL

@Mark – The ’07 season. We are sitting at 12-0. Washington and Jake Locker is coming to town. We’re number 12 in the bsc standings. So I go down to Cooke Field to watch Colt zing it in practice. The squad’s loose. Confident at the same time. U.H. is smokin’ hot. And so is the public’s expectations. Game is on ESPN. We go down 14-0. Washington is driving. Bam! The tide shifts. U.H. takes over the game. We win. 13-0, baby! Sugar Bowl bid looming. We end up number 10 in the final bcs standings. That, it was, was a once in a lifetime season. It’s never too late to turn back now…

Newspaper boy days. Come rain or shine, you have to get the papers out. Did it for 5 years. 24/7/365. But the days where it was raining cats and dogs was the worse. I remember one time my brothers and I were sicker than sick. But we had an obligation. It was pouring outside. No choice. You just suck it up and do your work. I remember seeing my mother so worried. She didn’t want to see us go out in the rain in our condition. But all parents worry for their kids. That’s okay mom, we needed the money, but it was also our choice to have a paper route. You guys did fine bringing us up. You just learn to hustle…

Here, here @dihudfan… going to depend on the QB Graham. If he’s the real deal, and I have a feeling he is, then U.H. should be back in the Hawaii Bowl or better. But Chow has to hurry up too. The buggah, he’s getting makule. Just because his mind is fine doesn’t mean he’ll coach forever. So come Saturday, if I had tickets, I’d go to Henry Louis, fill myself up with ribs and beer, and then catch the bus to the stadium. It’s cold and miserable at the games when it rains. But a U.H. win makes it all worth while. And so it goes…

@4G – Even though you stay all wet and miserable in the rain at Aloha Staduim, you did it because it was the place to be in college. Shoots, it was Saturday night and a packed house in the stadium. No school until Monday. Can you top that? Sure. So after Hawaii won in the rain, we made plans to go to La Mancha’s over at Keeaumoku afterwards. You are jacked from the game. You are stoked you partied all afternoon. You are still full of beer and ready for more. So we would fight the traffic home to shower and get changed to continue on with the night. When the beer flows, any kine flow from your mouth. “Eh, how many numbers you going get tonight?” “We going check ‘em out, who’ll be checking us out.” Yah, yah, yah. So we ask the bouncer if the place is happening. What else? Of course, brah! We make our rounds. Okay, rejection. We go get drinks. We make a second round. Okay, more rejection. We getting more desperate. So we make a third round. Rejected! Finally, we give up. Nothing but rejections that night. But hey, you know what? U.H. won and it’s all good.

The music’s blaring at La Mancha’s. Hey, DJ can you play us this song? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIpfWORQWhU

All this talk about the disco–just saw a former DJ at Rumours Nightclub on TV this morning. Yup, looks the same and even has the same company from way back when. But the guy was cool. He new what it meant being single because he was probably hopeless and single too back then. Anyway, whenever I saw him, he would ask what song I wanted played. Being the smooth operator I thought I was, it was always a slow song. Hey, when the DJ asks, you tell ‘em straight from the heart. You are looking for love. Even though it’s in all the wrong places. So, right back at you Mr. DJ. I always appreciate your help.

One time, I took a karaoke class. It was pretty good. Learned some things. Vibrato, holding a bag in front of your mouth to practice blowing and carrying a tune, and of course, being able to blow out a candle with your exhaling breath. In class, he told us he once had a gal take his class. Very monotone and was not expected to be anything big. Wrong. It ended up being her. Man, that was supposed to be Yvonne Elliman in Saturday Night Fever. Push “P” for penthouse, somebody. LOL

Many years ago, someone asked me to deliver some documents for him to this bar in Waikiki. No big deal. Figured if I was headed to a bar, I might as well go git myself a beer. So I stroll into this alley way on Kuhio. Kind of dark in there. Music’s blaring. Walked through the door. Holy, $hit! What did I see? All women. But it wasn’t women. It was all he-women. Tattoos, drinks were going, and all looking at me. It was a gay bar. Dropped off the documents as fast as possible. I was shaking walking out. Never mind about getting a beer. I’ll never forget, as this song was playing. Used to like the tune before, but not anymore. And it was only drizzling that night. LOL
